President Kenneth Barnhurst Memorial
Dining Hall & Indoor Chapel Campaign

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Several weeks ago, the Scout Executive for the Rocky Mountain Council made a
suggestion that I thought was wonderful! He expressed that the council is would like to expand the dining hall at the San Isabel Scout Ranch. He hoped the members of the church might like to undertake this project. This project would be part of a capital improvement campaign needed at the camp in memory of President Kenneth Barnhurst. I was happy to convey this suggestion to President Garcia. President Garcia has encouraged that we pursue this endeavor. The dining hall expansion will be known as:

                            The President Kenneth Barnhurst
Memorial Dining Hall and Indoor Chapel

It shall exhibit a tasteful display explaining the history of President Barnhurst’s relationship to Scouting. Not only will this serve as a tribute to a great Scout leader, but it will be a witness for Christ to those who view the memorial.
Currently, the camp has a capacity to hold nearly 300 boys. Unfortunately, the dining hall can only accommodate about half that number at one time, making it necessary to have two shifts per meal. This double shift dining uses about three hours of program times per day.

It has been estimated an expansion of the dining hall will cost approximately
$200,000. In conjunction with other planned projects, this will greatly enhance the camp to a world class Scout camp! Therefore, we encourage your financial support for this project as a means of supporting youth and the community at-large in memory of President Barnhurst.

Although, any donation is greatly appreciated, currently there exists a great 50%
tax advantage for donors of $250 and greater cash contributions. Any person may
claim a Child Care Tax Credit, even if you have no children at home. For example: a $50,000 donation for a person in the 25% tax bracket has a gross cost of a gift of only $17,014, or a cost of about $341 per each $1,000 cash donation.

The total capital campaign will be two million dollars over the next five years.
Pledges can be made for all five years; however, we would like to have the dining hall expansion completed by Spring of 2009 and ready for our LDS Young Men’s Encampment. Should you have any questions, please contact Brother Jim Brewer at 719-948-3714 or robinsjbeau@aol.com`
